Here at first row sports, our sports writer brings the full list of Summer Rio Olympics 2016 sports and games. This summer Olympics will be different from previous as there are many new games and sports added to the list. Some of the previous sports are being removed as well from the mega event. Olympic is always the biggest and most awaited sports event but it didn’t include all the major sports. This Olympics is starting from 5 August There are certain sports chosen by the International Olympic Committee for each Olympic even in advance. Here we have published the list so you can know if your favorite sport is added this time in Olympics games or if it’s been remove from the Olympics.

Rio Olympics 2016 Sports List

When we look upon the Olympics history, it seems that almost every event is differing from previous ones with many sports being added or subtracted. The first modern Olympics were started in 1896 where there were only 9 games at total being contested. These 9 sports in the first modern Olympic was Cycling, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Shooting, Fencing, Tennis, Athletics, Swimming and weightlifting. The number of sports in each Olympic grown every 4th yearly and many new games introduced into the event. There were 26 different sports and games being contestant in London Olympics 2012.

For the sports list in Rio Olympics and addition of any new game to the event, the International Olympics Committee voted for 2 games out of the list of 7 proposed sports for next Olympics. These 7 sports presented in front of Committee for voting includes rugby, roller sports, golf, squash, karate, baseball and softball. The majority of the votes go in the favor of Golf and Rugby. Hence, in Rio Olympics 2016, these 2 games namely Rugby and Golf are added to those already in London Olympics 2012. So there will be total 28 sports contested in Rio. It will be the first time that the Rugby and golf fans can watch their favorite player being playing in the biggest sports event in the World. These 28 sports are further subdivided into 41 disciplines for example; Aquatics sport is divided into Water Polo, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming and Diving. For those 28 sports and 41 disciplines, there will be 10500 athletes, players, simmers, boxers and fighter from 206 countries of the world will be participating. In total, 306 Medal Events are planned in this Olympic where 161 medal’s events are for Men only, 136 medals for Women and 9 medal’s events are for both. Sports fans can expect a much more number of games in Olympics 2020 as the committee is in the process of finalizing the sports to add in the next Olympics.
